Closure

The last day in my classroom was very sad. I got gifts and read letters from my kids and they all had a lot to say! I already miss them and want to go see them soon. I teared up when I read their letters. I plan to go see them!

Three more monday's...

The past year in the class has been fun and hard. There was a lot of work but I guess that is essential for becoming a teacher!

At the beginning of the year I felt excited and kind of nervous to start interning but as the year went on it became more easier and sometimes harder! But i did enjoy going to my class three times a week! I love those kids and I hate saying bye to them!

I think now I am more excited to become a teacher because I know a lot more about what it takes to become a teacher. I am excited to finish college and work somewhere I went to school at. I would love to teach at Richland. I think teaching is for sure something for me because I was good with the kids and I am very personable.

I will close this year of interning on a good note, saying bye and giving my kids and teacher thank you gifts. I will be upset and will want to see my kids in the future!

Connecting to the Real World

Throughout my years in school I think the subjects could have
been more relevant by teaching me things that i would actually learn
when I get out of school.

A subject that would have been useful would be a class that teaches me about
money management.

I do not feel comfortable about the way I handle money I spend it right away
and I spend it on things I do not need.

I wish there was a class that helped you manage money, I would have appreciated
that class because leaving high school and getting on my own, that would have
helped me later on.

What teachers want parents to know.

Teachers want parents to know, that if they give you advice about your child
take it and actually use it, they see their kids "in another light" and sometimes the
teacher does know more than the parent.

Trust them. Teachers want their students parents to trust them, trust their judgement
and anything they say about their child, if they say that their child has a behavior problem
the parent should respect the teacher and do something to fix it.

"Parents are partners rather than prosecutors." That in my eyes means the the parent is more like
a friend to they child than a parent. That can be an issue because the child might need a parent
figure or might need some dicipline.

Creativity Counts

Creativity is expressing yourself in a way that nobody else can.

Creativity matters in schools because if you don't have creativity, every kid may not learn as well as another. You need to be able to show every student that having creativity is a factor in expressing yourself and learning better. Every kid learns in their own way, just like every kid shows creativity in their own way.

If your creative you will want to learn more because learning can become a more fun experience. Learning is not all about text books and writing papers, showing kids to be expressive can show them learning actually is fun!

You're Hired!

Applying for a job or scholarship always comes with an interview, preparing your self for an interview is important because its a fifty fifty chance that you will either be accepted or not. My weaknesses when I go to an interview are nervousness and rambling on and on, to overcome theses i have talked myself up and gave myself more self confidence. Having confidence is a huge factor in doing well at an interview.

Having good eye contact and speaking skills is also two things you need to do or have while entering an interview. Knowing these skills will prepare you for a good interview.

Digital Learning

Being technical in the classroom is very important, it allows kids to see the world or assignment in a different view! Using iPods, smart boards or computers gives kids two new things to learn, it gives them knowledge about the device your using and the subject your teaching. In my classroom id use the smart board and iPods, id use the smart board for learning games and give them an iPod touch not to keep but to help them see things that they can do academically thru technology.

Make it Happen in 2012!

The last few months of 2011 and the first semester of my Senior year I sort of slacked off and it resulted in me having to work extra hard to just barely pass, this second semester I'm going to:

1. I am going to make it a priority to get all my work in and ON TIME, doing
this will bring me a lot less stress and more time to have fun and relax my last semester,

2. I am going to make a stronger effort on my work, take more pride in my projects, doing
this will make my grades a lot better and make me feel better about my work.

3. I am going to come to school everyday and try not to be tardy, dealing with making up
hours last semester was hard enough.

Making and effort to do these things will make the rest of my Senior year very relaxed
and fun!

Reflections of a Second grade intern.

Walking into a classroom as a guest and not knowing any of the students or the teacher can be an extremely awkward and give you a weird feeling, four months ago I had that exact feeling. Being in Mrs. Hooper’s second grade class has been a whirlwind of different emotions. Looking back on how much I have changed from four months until now is crazy! I have learned so much and have gained a lot of knowledge on what to do and how to handle certain situations.

For an example, I have learned that you cannot let your students over rule your classroom, even if you do not like to take command and be firm with your students you have to because if you don’t they will take advantage of the situation. A few times in the classroom this year my kids have been louder than me and I didn’t gain the courage to speak over them, but now I see that it is essential.

Getting on to a difficult child is also hard, you have to know how to correctly punish them and make sure that they know what they have done wrong. A child in my classroom is known to behave and has a hard time ceasing the things he’s doing wrong. I have learned that every student has a background and usually has a reason to why they act out. I have been getting close to this student and I have found out reasons why he acts how he does and I handle his issues privately and correctly. He has been behaving better for me now.

Teaching in Mrs. Hooper’s second grade class has been a blast so far and it is going by so quickly, I still have a lot to learn and am excited to gain more knowledge on how to teach young students.

The Ideal Classroom

After reading the article, Lewisville ISD trades rows of desks for sofas, it made me think about how I would structure my own classroom. I would have it decorated very colorful and with bright colors, to keep the students awake, I would arrange my desks in rows and have them facing the board, i would have a chalk board instead of a dry erase board. I would just make the room relatable to them.
